Will aftermarket HEI distributors work on an OAI car?
Has anyone tried to use an aftermarket HEI distributor on an OAI car with the factory OAI air cleaner setup in place? I have 1970 442 with OAI.
I have seen a few instances of people removing the air cleaner assembly and using standard GM HEI distributors with aftermarket chrome open element air filters.
I am looking at the MSD 8529 for my car for the simple maintenance and reliability when compared to a points type. Or is it a better bet just to rebuild the factory point type distributor?
Is there any risk to the factory Tic-Toc Tach when using an aftermarket distributor?

After some additional research, I am planning on going with a Pertronix ignition conversion kit. This allows me to retain the original distributor and move to a more reliable ignition system that can be converted back to points if desired. Has anyone used these? Please share any feedback or recommendations. Thank you.
